2022 Reading Week 1

READ AND MEDITATE THESE SCRIPTURES DURING THIS WEEK’S FAST

Joel 2:12, 13, 15-17 TLB
That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me all your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, mourning. Let your remorse tear at your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful. He is not easily angered; he is full of kindness and anxious not to punish you.

James 4:7-9 TLB
So give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  And when you draw close to God, God will draw close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and let your hearts be filled with God alone to make them pure and true to him. Let there be tears for the wrong things you have done. Let there be sorrow and sincere grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.

Psalm 51:17 TLB
It is a broken spirit you want—remorse and penitence. A broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not ignore.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 NLT
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Psalm 139:21-24 NLT
O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you? Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Hebrews  12:1-3 NLT
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people;[c] then you won’t become weary and give up.
